To start 2019, we've decided to  summarise all notable headlines and game releases that occurred last year in gaming. This year would see us return to a monthly summary eventful stories that happen throughout 2018. 3 years and 1 Million Downloads Later…

Tonielrosoft  is now celebrating one million downloads of its free classic card game called Naija Whot.  Naija Whot  is a digitised version of the widely popular card game in Nigeria known as Whot!  The game also includes modes like  quick-play with a single robot, tournament match with 3 robots, one vs one multiplayer against a human  opponent as well as action card configurations, avatar customisations  and French  localisation  features. Naija Whot has now become  the first Nigerian game to hit this landmark based on downloads solely from the Play Store.  The game was released on December 09 2014 on the Google Play Store, which means that it reached one million in 3 years 10 months and 22 days (1422 days). The game has also been on the Google Play’s top 100 app and game charts in Nigeria for over the past 2 years now. Another game from Tonielrosoft,  Naija Ludo  is also close to the one million download landmark.

2017 Review of the Nigerian Gaming Industry

This post is long overdue, but it's better late than never, right? Anyways, writing this was supposed to be like the 2016 year in review post but honestly nothing much happened last year that I really took cognisance of, and I also wanted to try another style for this write-up. For 2017, I'd be focusing on major events, indies and the remaining pioneer gaming studios still in business. So then, let's get right to it. First up is... Maliyo 2017 Review Maliyo had a solid year in 2017 with the launch of MonaPay and the Maliyo Marketplace . After their comeback in 2016 and my numerous chats with Hugo Obi (Manager/CEO), they seem to look like they've shifted from their previous endeavours; making locally relatable mobile games. Hugo has always talked about two major challenges facing the local industry; Discoverability and Monetization, and last year looked like the right time for Maliyo to solve those problems. With the Maliyo Marketplace, Nigerians can n
