Spark Fellowship extends deadline to empower African creators

The Creative Economy is booming, and Africa is at the forefront of this growth. The Spark Fellowship, a ground breaking initiative from Africa Comicade, is extending its deadline to nurture and empower the next generation of African digital creators.

Recently, Pierre Hintz, Studio Head of Halo-creator 343 Industries, aptly observed that "50% of the Sub-Saharan African population comprises 18-year-olds and younger. In the next two decades, the majority of video game consumers and creators will be today's youth population." This statement highlights Africa's unique position as the next frontier for commerce and a hub for the workforce of the future.

Backed by Unity's Workforce Grant and run in collaboration with Enter Africa, The Nest Technology and Innovation Park, and other industry stakeholders, the Spark Fellowship seeks to identify and support individuals with a passion for Video Game Development, Animation, or XR. Ideal candidates are self-motivated team players who demonstrate creativity, eagerness to embrace challenges, and adaptability to a dynamic environment. A commitment of fifteen hours per week is required for successful participation, along with access to the necessary hardware and internet resources.

The Spark Fellowship offers a wealth of benefits for its participants:

  • Mentorship from Industry Experts: Fellows will gain invaluable insights from seasoned mentors from the gaming industry, benefiting from their expertise, feedback, and valuable guidance.
  • Unity Certification Opportunity: Exceptional fellows will have the chance to participate in the globally recognized Unity Certification exam, showcasing their skills and enhancing their career prospects in the industry.
  • Thriving Global Community: Participants will join a vibrant community of like-minded individuals, fostering collaboration, networking, and the exchange of innovative ideas.
  • Career Launchpad: Successful program participants will gain access to a network of potential employers in the gaming sector, opening doors to exciting job and internship opportunities that can kick-start their careers in the gaming industry.

As Michael Oscar, Co-Founder of Africacomicade, puts it, the Spark Fellowship is "a talent pipeline for supporting the growth of the African digital creative industry." Nestled within the ARK initiative, this Fellowship serves as a testament to our commitment to fostering a sustainable ecosystem for stakeholders in the African Immersive and Interactive media sector.

If you're a passionate and creative individual with a knack for Video Game Development, Animation, or XR, don't miss this opportunity to join the Spark Fellowship! Applications were previously opened till the 10th of December but have been extended until December 30, 2023. Visit Spark Fellowship to access additional information and apply for participation.
